The drip edge should be installed on top of the underlayment at all rakes and below or on top of the underlayment at the eaves. Install the step flashing before running the first row of shingles install a piece of step flashing along the sidewall so that it sits tightly against the roof. T shape drip edge is an l shaped flashing in which the long leg folds back on itself before heading down 90 degrees to form the short leg. It is also sometimes called d metal for drip.

Drip edge roof flashing types. Please like and subscribe for more instructional videos. Start from the top of the roof and remove the old shingles along with the flashing underlayment and vents. Inspect the underlying roof sheathing for damage and make any needed repairs.

L shape drip edge is a simple 90 degree bend with a flare out at the bottom of the short leg. Flashing is installed to surround roof features such as vents chimneys and skylights. Hammer down any large nails that are exposed by the removal. Align the step flashing with the leading edge of the starter course and nail it in place using one nail in the upper corner.

Water should run down the side of the flashing and be directed to the shingles instead of finding its way into the roof deck.
